Delusions and Their Antidotes

Delusion Description Antidote
Ignorance (Avidya) Lack of understanding of the true nature of reality. Wisdom (Prajna): Developing insight into the nature of reality, especially the understanding of emptiness (shunyata).
Attachment (Raga) Excessive desire for and clinging to worldly objects and experiences. Detachment (Vairagya) or Generosity (Dana): Cultivating a sense of detachment from worldly desires and practicing generosity.
Aversion (Dvesha) Strong dislike or hatred towards objects, people, or experiences. Loving-kindness (Metta) or Patience (Kshanti): Developing love and kindness towards others and practicing patience.
Pride (Mada) Inflated sense of self-importance and superiority over others. Humility (Nimrata): Cultivating humility and recognizing the equality of all beings.
Doubt (Vichikitsa) Lack of confidence in the teachings, the path, or oneself. Confidence (Shraddha) or Faith (Vishvas): Developing confidence in the teachings and faith in the path.
Jealousy (Irshya) Envy of others' success, possessions, or qualities. Sympathetic Joy (Mudita): Rejoicing in the success and happiness of others.
Miserliness (Matsarya) Reluctance to share or give, hoarding resources. Generosity (Dana): Practicing generosity and sharing with others.
Laziness (Kausidya) Unwillingness to make an effort, procrastination. Diligence (Virya): Cultivating diligence and a strong work ethic.
Hatred (Dvesha) Intense dislike or hostility towards others. Loving-kindness (Metta) or Compassion (Karuna): Developing loving-kindness and compassion towards all beings.
Restlessness (Uddhacca) Agitation and inability to stay focused or calm. Concentration (Samadhi): Practicing meditation to develop mental stability and calm.
Shamelessness (Ahrikya) Lack of moral integrity and respect for oneself. Sense of Shame (Hri): Cultivating a sense of moral integrity and respect for oneself.
Lack of Conscientiousness (Anapatrapya) Disregard for the impact of one's actions on others. Consideration for Others (Ottappa): Developing a sense of responsibility and consideration for the impact of one's actions on others.
Greed (Lobha) Excessive desire for more than one needs or deserves. Contentment (Santosh): Cultivating contentment and satisfaction with what one has.
Ill-will (Vyapada) Desire to cause harm to others. Loving-kindness (Metta): Developing love and goodwill towards all beings.
Wrong Views (Mithya Drishti) Misunderstanding the nature of reality and the teachings. Right View (Samma Ditthi): Developing a correct understanding of the nature of reality and the teachings.
