The Hidden Treasure
JESUS MAFA, 1973

Dear friends,

Today, I would like to reflect on the words of Jesus in Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52. These passages contain some of the most profound teachings on the nature of the Kingdom of God and the path to enlightenment.

In the first parable, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds but grows into a large tree. This reminds us that the potential for spiritual growth is within each of us, no matter how small we may feel. We should not underestimate the power of our actions and thoughts, for they can have a significant impact on the world around us.

Similarly, in the second parable, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to leaven, which is a small amount of yeast that leavens a large amount of dough. This illustrates how our spiritual practice can have a transformative effect on ourselves and those around us. By cultivating compassion, wisdom, and other virtuous qualities, we can influence the world in a positive way.

In the third parable, Jesus tells of a man who discovers a buried treasure in a field and sells everything he has to buy it. This symbolizes the value of the spiritual path and the willingness to let go of our attachments to worldly possessions and desires in order to attain enlightenment. We must recognize that true happiness and fulfillment come from within, not from external sources.

The fourth parable, the pearl of great price, further emphasizes the importance of spiritual attainment. Like the merchant who sells everything to obtain the pearl, we must be willing to make sacrifices and commit ourselves fully to the path.

Finally, in the fifth parable, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a fishing net that catches all kinds of fish, both good and bad. This illustrates the universality of the spiritual path and the fact that all beings have the potential to attain enlightenment. We should not discriminate or judge others based on their outward appearance or actions, but recognize the intrinsic value and potential for spiritual growth in everyone.

These parables offer profound insights into the nature of the Kingdom of God and the path to enlightenment. As we reflect on these teachings, let us cultivate the qualities of compassion, wisdom, and humility, and commit ourselves fully to the spiritual path. May we all find happiness and fulfillment in the pursuit of true enlightenment.
